China Succeeds With It's First Manned Docking

Going through the IO9 blog articles I was blown away to discover that China has an orbiting space lab called Tiangong-1. Not afraid to admit I dropped the ball on this one! But I degress, China in the early hours of June 18th 2012 succeeded in docking with Tiangong-1. This makes it one of only three countries behind the USA and Russia. The three person crew consisted of taikonauts Jing Heipeng, Liu Wang and Liu Yang, China's first woman in space.

China is aiming towards a space station in 2020, which may not be too ambitious for their program considering that this was only their fourth manned mission.

Maybe they will build one that is capable of accepting tourists. They seem to be the only ones at the moment actively pursuing a fully active, and well funded space program. And frankly the country or countries that do that will be making a whole lot of money.
Not to mention the money for the private sector in terms of transporting.
Basically, a ride in the worlds fastest and most powerful limo, to the ultimate vacation hotel.
Boy I wish i was rich enough to start a program like this.

Fun idea Kall, they really showed their colors with this mission however. I mean, I didn't even KNOW they had a orbital lab? That they had crew ready craft and it was able to dock with the station? WTF! I mean yeah I know I have been low key for a couple of weeks, but this isn't days in the making. It is clear to me that China is still deep in a 60s / 70s cold war mentality and they are going to give up as little as they can. They are never going to let anyone but Chinese personnel anywhere near the lab. Considering how paranoid they are about having tourists from the west on Chinese soil, I have an idea that tourists on anything that they fly is not a happening thing.

Very true. I'm hoping the greed factor will eventually drive someone to developing this.
But yeah, they are still in the cold war xenophobic era in a lot of ways.
I'm always amazed by the world somehow. Too bad it isn't always in a good way.

Yeah, it is baffling. They have to see that a closed system hasn't work before with other countries...though the US and Russia do have their own form of mental illnesses.

Just imagine the chaos at the so called end co of the cold war when Russia fell apart. Our agency wasn't exactly throwing a party.
It was more of, now where did all these ex-KGB newly created free lance agents run off to, and what are they doing.
And where did they take all the files to. When they left, they pretty much ransacked files and information from everywhere.
But what really gets me, is that in the 21st century, we still have to live in fear of who is doing what, and for what reason.
There is so much secrecy, and intrigue involved in every government to the point of insanity. Even our own agencies won't work together, nor will different political parties either.
I bet it would be amazing to really find all the advancements both good and bad that have been kept from the public around the world. Most of which I bet is done so under the great laws of national security.
Maybe Gene was right. Maybe we'll have to get to the brink of total destruction before we change.
That just sucks.
